Our communities need accountability. Most of us live in small towns and our local newspapers have not been locally-owned for many, many years.
This paper began as a community project in 2015. We have broken many important stories since that time, and now function as the only alternative news outlet in St. Francois County to major news conglomerates. We support and encourage any local journalism — even that owned by major conglomerates — but we do advocate for hard-hitting journalism that challenges those in power. We are not alone in noticing that, for too long, small towns have been run without accountability or pushback against centralized power-brokers.
We think it is important to keep an eye on the government. We do this by trying to report on small government bodies in our area. If this is an area of interest for you and you would like to help us in our news-gathering functions, please reach out to us.
We do not currently accept advertisers, although we have a waiting list if your business is interested in running ads with us at some point in the future.
If you stumble across anything you think might be a story, feel free to reach out to us on our facebook page or email us at stfranherald /at/ gmail .com
